Record Number of Scuba Dives Per Person

by Dave

Hi,

I would like to know what the record number of scuba dives is for one person?

A friend of mine says he's done 5328 dives in 4 years at 2 months per year !! I think he's full of bull!!

He's shown me his SSI dive certs but they are from the Philippines so he's probably filled them in himself!!

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Interesting question and situation with your friend. If I am reading your question right, your friend did all these dives over a period of 8 months (4 years and diving 2 months per year).

The math shows that this would equate to 666 dives per month or about 22 dives per day.

Let's just say this is not feasible (unless of course, you do an extremely short dive which is not what the intent is here I assume).

So yes, I agree with you that your friend is putting you on.

I do not know the record number of dives (a real dive that is) for one person. I have never seen such a statistic. It would have to be very high though. If any one could shed any light on the subject, we would love to hear.

Tell your friend he owes you a drink.

Dianne

The numbers, why lie
by: Anonymous

On you tube a diver reacts video site has a super ego driven know it all named woody. He claims 7500 dives and let's not leave off the plus symbol. If you are legit you would know your number and yes in the world of diving if it's not recorded it doesn't count. You can't say you have 1000 hours as a pilot without having to prove it as it to must be on record . Doing the math and it being a perfect world which it isn't shows these ego junkies are full of bull. Woody show the proof or stop the bull.this guy is a joke and brings a bad name to those who aren't driven in ego and are real in there adventures. Your destroying the sport get over yourself .

Record Number of SCUBA Dives Per Person

This question caught my attention, and I have to say, after seeing Dave's response (22 dives per day?!) I laughed...and then, being a former US Marine (and diver), felt a bit of rage at the concept of 'stolen glory' over your friend claiming this number of dives!

Let me put it like this...short of a 'Cousteau' crew member's experience (which I know of no one personally like that), I do have a friend that he and I certified PADI together in 1989...and as he retired in Hawaii, know that he dove almost daily...

He claims 8200+ dives in the past 29 years...and I believe him (if anything, he has many he didn't even log)...so to his credit, I'd say he is the most 'experienced' 55 year old I know...he is OW, AOW, DW, Cave and Rescue certified...truly a master diver, by anyone's account. I know he's 'instructed' some....but I don't know if he ever got his official 'instructor' license...

Anyway...the guy dove almost daily for decades...with legit numbers...(my guess is, he's turning into an octopus by now...haven't seen him in a few years, though)....

I think he meant four years and 2 months

However even at 50 months the diver would have to do over four dives per day with zero days off. This would be very hard to do even (but not impossible) for someone who works at a dive shop and takes divers out on a daily basis. My conclusion though is the same as yours he is full of bull!
