My Scuba Dive Vacation to Cozumel

We had a quick but good trip to Cozumel via Cancun. We stayed a few blocks from the square at a gated private house. It was a 1/1 up an exterior side stairway with our own patio. Didn't spend much time there.

Dove with Aqua Safari. Good outfit. They are located on Rafael Melgar (the street right on the ocean) near the Mc Donalds. They have their own dock right in front. Cost was $60 for the 2 tank morning dive on the big/slow boat - (12 divers max) or pay $5 more for the fast boat (8 divers max - recommended). Including us, the most we had on the fast boat was 5 divers. Also, if you do the morning dive, for $9 more (yes - nine) you can do the afternoon dive. You don't have to decide about the afternoon dive until after you get back from the morning dive. Afternoon dive is on big boat only and does Paradise reef every afternoon.

Morning fast boat is 8 am. Gets back between 11:30 to 12:30. Plenty of time afterwards for lunch before the Afternoon dive at 2:30 pm. They ask you to check in 15 min before departure.

For lunch, walk a couple of blocks south to Rockin Java (great sandwiches, chicken wrap was very good. A nice change from Mex food although they have that too. About $10 per person if you drink soda.) It is a block or two before reaching Hotel Barracuda.

Dove with dive master Chino and captain Chilango. Great service - they fixed Cathy's equipment between dives when her inflator hose kept filling up her BC. Chino took us out on his 28th wedding anniversary.

You can rinse, hang & store your gear at their shop.

Found a cool pool bar a block south of the dive shop in the shopping street.

We went daily to a great place on the square. It's a no name place with plastic tables and chairs at the Northwest corner (diagonally across from the Farmacia). Two for one margaritas for $4.50 and dollar beers (or save 50 cents and get a bucket of 6 for $5.50). The mango margarita is really tasty. Also, great ceviche for only $6.00 for a huge plate. Fajitas were good too. Much more reasonable than the other places nearby. Ask for Ishmael (like Moby dick) or Cheepa who we met after closing for some drinks at a place down the road. Tell them we said Hi. Ishmael helped us figure out that my girlfriend is now allergic to limes. She thought she was going to die after drinking the lime margaritas which are made with real lime juice, not sour mix.

Enjoy.
