Scuba Diving and Wetsuits in Bonaire

by Anonymous

Hi,

Is a 4mm wetsuit too warm to wear in Bonaire to scuba dive?

Hi,

First, I'm jealous. Wish I was going with you.

As far as your question, it isn't an easy one to answer since everyone is different. I'm not sure when you are going but the average water temperature in Bonaire is about 82F.

It can fall to around 78F in the winter so it does get a bit cooler. You can read the details on our Bonaire scuba diving page.

When we were there (in September) the average water temperature was 84-85F. I only wore a diveskin and was fine. I have a 3mm shorty but didn't use it. Of course, I don't get cold easily so it certainly won't work for everyone.

As I tell on our Bonaire diving pages, I read about someone that used a drysuit to go diving in Bonaire. To me, that seems like overkill but whatever makes you happy.

So if you don't get cold easily and are going during the summer, a 4mm might be a bit much. However, if you do get cold and are going during the cooler months, a 4mm might be just right for you.

The scuba diving in Bonaire is wonderful and I'm sure you will have a great time and some fantastic diving.

Have a great trip and please let us know how it goes. We would love to hear from you.

Dianne
