Scuba Diving Safety: Can I Dive With Asthma?

by Liam
(scotland)

Hi,

I am Asthmatic but I was wondering if I would be able to go scuba diving when I go on holiday next year?

Hi Liam,

Thanks for getting in touch. The question of scuba diving and asthma is not a question I am qualified to answer. However, I have looked up some resources for you. They should provide a good starting point for your research. I would also discuss this with your doctor before you made any decisions.

The two resources I recommend which discuss scuba diving and asthma are Scuba Doc's Diving and Asthma page - this also contains links to several other resources - and Diver Alert Networks Diving and Asthma article.

You will find alot of information in both of these sources. It appears that diving with asthma is still a controversial subject.

Good luck and have a great time on vacation whether you dive or not.
